Novak Djokovic instaló a Serbia en los Cuartos de Final de la Copa Davis al conseguir este jueves la victoria que dejó fuera a Francia.

Luego de asegurarse el primer lugar del Grupo A, Serbia se las verá el viernes contra Rusia.

Pese a darle descanso a Andy Murray, Gran Bretaña también avanzó tras derrotar 2-1 a Kazajistán y enfrentará a Alemania. Argentina escoltó a los alemanes en el Grupo C y se medirá contra Rafael Nadal y el anfitrión España.

Australia y Canadá ya se habían clasificado de antemano a la ronda de los ocho mejores y jugaban a segunda hora del jueves para decidir el primer semifinalista de la reconfigurada competición de equipos.

Djokovic dio cuenta 6-3, 6-3 de Benoit Paire para certificar el triunfo de los serbios ante Francia. Filip Krajinovic abrió la serie con un triunfo 7-5, 7-6(5) sobre Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Francia rescató un punto cuando Pierre-Hugues Herbert y Nicolas Mahut vencieron a Viktor Troicki y Janko Tipsarevic por 6-4, 6-4 en dobles.

Djokovic quebró una vez en el primer set y dos veces en el segundo para su décima cuarta victoria seguida en partidos de individuales por la Davis.

Gracias al triunfo de su dupla de dobles, Alemania salió primero en el Grupo C tras superar 2-1 a Chile. Kevin Krawietz y Andreas Mies vencieron a Marcelo Tomás Barrios y Alejandro Tabilo por 7-6(3), 6-3.

Phillip Kohlschreiber puso en ventaja a Alemania al ganarle 6-4, 6-3 a Nicolás Jarry. Cristian Garín rasguñó el único punto chileno de la semana al vencer 6-7(3), 7-6(7), 7-6(8) a Jan-Lennard Struff.
