ANAHEIM.- En su temporada 12 y luego de 666 juegos, el mexicano Joakim Soria subió a la loma como abridor por primera vez en su carrera en Grandes Ligas.

En lo que cada vez más se afianza como una estrategia común en las Mayores, Soria, quien trabaja desde el bullpen, abrió por los Oakland Athletics en el duelo ante Los Angeles Angels en Anaheim.

Soria trabajó una entrada en la que permitió dos hits, uno de ellos un jonrón solitario, y ponchó a dos. Para el segundo inning, el mexicano fue relevado por Daniel Mengden.

De acuerdo a la estrategia que los Tampa Bay Rays iniciaron en 2018, Soria trabajaría una o dos entradas.

Soria, quien inició su carrera la Gran Carpa en 2007 con los Kansas City Royals, trabajó principalmente como cerrador hasta 2015 con 220 rescates, 160 de ellos con los Royals con quienes jugó en una primera etapa hasta 2011, lapso en el que logró dos veces rebasar los 40 salvamentos (42 en 2008 y 43 en 2010).

Tras dejar a los Royals, Soria jugó con los Texas Rangers (2013-14), Detroit Tigers (2014-15), Pittsburgh Pirates (2015), volvió a Kansas City (2016-17) y jugó en los Chicago White Sox y Milwaukee Brewers en 2018 antes de llegar a Oakland en 2019.

Soria llegó al duelo ante los Angels con marca de 32-39 y efectividad de 2.97 en su carrera en Grandes Ligas.
