La Copa del Mundo Qatar 2022 otra vez está en el ojo del huracán, ahora por el conflicto armado entre Estados Unidos e Irán.

La tensión pone en duda la realización del primer Mundial en invierno.

Además, también se multiplican los rumores sobre la opción de que Estados Unidos, Canadá y México organicen la Copa del Mundo de 2022 y no de 2026, toda vez que cuentan ya con la infraestructura requerida por la FIFA.

Dicha versión se ha alimentado desde junio de 2017, cuando varios países árabes impusieron un bloqueo naval, aéreo y terrestre a Qatar con el argumento de que financiaba a grupos terroristas.

En mayo de 2015 detonó el llamado FIFAGate, el mayor escándalo de corrupción en la historia del organismo y en el que quedaron asentados actos de corrupción en el proceso para la designación de los Mundiales de 2018 y 2022.

La crítica también se ha centrado en las violaciones de Qatar en materia de derechos humanos, la explotación y falta de garantías de seguridad para los trabajadores, así como las condiciones climáticas extremas.
