TOKIO — El Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) y el Gobierno de Japón acordaron hoy aplazar alrededor de un año los próximos Juegos Olímpicos, ante el impacto generado en la preparación de los atletas por la pandemia de coronavirus.
Así lo decidieron el primer ministro japonés, Shinzo Abe, y el presidente del COI, Thomas Bach, en una conversación telefónica que mantuvieron hoy, en la que estuvieron presentes otros representantes de las autoridades deportivas y políticas de Japón.
«Japón, como país anfitrión, bajo las actuales circunstancias, ha propuesto que (el COI) estudie si se pueden aplazar cerca de un año (los JJOO) para que los atletas puedan tener las mejores condiciones», dijo Abe en declaraciones a los periodistas.»
