MIDDLESBROUGH, Inglaterra — Paul Gascoigne fue absuelto el jueves de haber agredido sexualmente a una mujer en un tren luego de que la besó en los labios.

Un jurado en la Corte de la Corona en Teesside exoneró al exastro de la selección de Inglaterra de ese cargo, además de la alternativa menos grave de agresión física que el juez les pidió ponderar.

Gascoigne, de 52 años, dijo que no tuvo intención sexual cuando besó a una mujer que no conocía. El retirado futbolista aseguró que la mujer había sido denigrada por otro pasajero.

El caso respondió a un viaje en tren entre York y Newcastle, en el norte de Inglaterra, en agosto de 2018.

Gascoigne militó con Tottenham Hotspur, SS Lazio y Glasgow Rangers, entre otros importantes equipos.
