El presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, afirmó este martes que se ha convertido en un «hincha total» del vídeo arbitraje (VAR, por sus siglas en inglés) porque esta tecnología, aunque no es perfecta, ha venido a «limpiar» el futbol de polémicas.

«Soy hincha total del VAR, no siempre fue así. Al principio fui un poquito escéptico, pero hemos visto con pruebas, con hechos, que el VAR ayuda. Hay todavía un gasto y vamos a trabajar para que disminuya porque necesitamos ayudar a los árbitros», manifestó Infantino en conferencia de prensa.

El presidente de la FIFA efectuó este martes una breve visita a Costa Rica como parte de una gira por Centroamérica que lo llevará hoy mismo a Honduras y el miércoles a El Salvador.

Infantino defendió el trabajo de los árbitros porque lo considera «increíblemente complicado» e invitó a los críticos a que arbitren una vez un partido entre amigos o entre niños para que «vean lo difícil que es».

El presidente de la FIFA aseguró que, aunque no es perfecto, el VAR ha llegado para ayudar a los árbitros y para «limpiar» el futbol de polémicas.

«Gracias al VAR no hay más decisiones escandalosas, no hay partidos que se deciden por escándalos, no hay goles con la mano ni en fuera de juego. No es perfecto, se sigue trabajando y mejorando, pero ya es un progreso enorme», aseguró.

Infantino prometió que la FIFA seguirá trabajando para llevar la tecnología al fútbol de todo el mundo, ya que «entre más VAR se utilice, más se ayuda al árbitro y más se limpia el futbol».

«Teníamos miedo de que el VAR iba a cambiar el fútbol, pero el VAR no ha cambiado el futbol, ha limpiado el futbol», expresó.

Durante su visita a Costa Rica, Infantino también anunció la «posibilidad muy real» de que Costa Rica y Panamá organicen en conjunto el Mundial femenino Sub 20 que está programado para septiembre de 2020.
