El único cronista de beisbol que no votó por la inclusión de Derek Jeter en el Salón de la Fama optó por mantener privada su papeleta.

La Asociación de Cronistas de Beisbol de Estados Unidos dio a conocer las boletas de 314 votantes el martes y todas las papeletas públicas incluyeron al ex capitán de los Yanquis de Nueva York.

Jeter figuró en 396 de 397 boletas en la votación anunciada el 21 de enero, elegido junto al toletero Larry Walker. Ambos serán incluidos oficialmente en el Salón de la Fama en una ceremonia en Cooperstown el 26 de julio.

También serán exaltados el receptor Ted Simmons y Marvin Miller, el extinto jefe del sindicato de peloteros, tras ser elegidos en diciembre por un comité de la era moderna.

El taponero panameño Mariano Rivera, compañero de Jeter para cinco títulos de la Serie Mundial, se convirtió en la primera selección unánime el año pasado, nombrado en 425 boletas.

La BBVA (siglas en inglés de la asociación de cronistas) decidió en 2011 que las boletas para el Salón de la Fama deberían ser públicas, pero la junta directiva del Salón incluyó una opción para que cada votante decidiese si su boleta era pública o no. Desde 2012, cada votante puede marcar en la papeleta si quiere que sea hecha pública, dos semanas tras la votación.

El porcentaje de boletas púbicas fue el mismo este año (79.3%) como en el pasado (79.5%).
