Miami (martes, 5 de noviembre de 2019) – La Confederación de Norte, Centroamérica y el Caribe de Fútbol Asociación (Concacaf) anunció hoy que Estados Unidos será sede del Campeonato Preolímpico Femenino de Concacaf 2020. La competencia, que clasificará a dos equipos para el Torneo Olímpico de Fútbol Femenino Tokio 2020, se llevará a cabo del 28 de enero al 9 de febrero de 2020.

El sorteo oficial y el anuncio de las ciudades que albergarán el torneo se llevará a cabo el jueves, 7 de noviembre de 2019, desde los estudios Mediapro en Miami, FL. Los aficionados podrán seguir toda la acción a partir de las 2:30 pm ET, a través de las redes sociales de Concacaf y en OneSoccer (Canadá), TUDN (Mexico) y FlowSports (Caribe).

“El Campeonato Preolímpico es una competencia emocionante que mostrará lo mejor del fútbol femenino. Brindará una gran oportunidad para que los aficionados disfruten viendo a las actuales Campeonas del Mundo en Estados Unidos, y a otros participantes de la Copa Mundial Femenina, Canadá y Jamaica, mientras compiten con los mejores de la región por el honor de representar a sus países en Tokio 2020 «, dijo el presidente de Concacaf Víctor Montagliani.

El Campeonato Preolímpico Femenino de Concacaf 2020 contará con la participación de ocho equipos. Estados Unidos, como anfitrión, participará junto con los países norteamericanos, Canadá y México. Los otros cinco equipos han sido determinados a través de eliminatorias regionales. En Centroamérica, Costa Rica y Panamá aseguraron una posición a través de la clasificatoria Centroamericana, que se llevó a cabo del 4 al 8 de octubre en Alajuela, Costa Rica y la Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá.

En el Caribe, los tres ganadores de la fase de grupos de la clasificatoria caribeña, Haití, Jamaica y San Cristóbal y Nieves aseguraron un boleto para el preolímpico, al terminar como primeros de sus respectivos grupos. Las eliminatorias del Caribe se llevaron a cabo del 30 de septiembre al 8 de octubre en Jamaica, Haití y Trinidad y Tobago.

Para la competencia final, los ocho países participantes serán divididos en dos grupos de cuatro. Después de la fase de grupos, que se llevará a cabo del 28 de enero al 4 de febrero, los dos primeros lugares de cada grupo pasarán a las semifinales. Las dos semifinales, que determinarán a los equipos clasificados para los Juegos Olímpicos, se jugarán el viernes, 7 de febrero. La final del campeonato, donde se coronará un nuevo campeón, se jugará el domingo, 9 de febrero.

En la edición anterior del Campeonato Preolímpico Femenino de Concacaf, que se llevó a cabo en Houston y Frisco, en el 2016, Estados Unidos superó a Canadá 2-0 en la final, obteniendo su cuarto título consecutivo.

El Campeonato Preolímpico Femenino de Concacaf 2020 comenzará lo que será un año de fútbol femenino en Concacaf. En total, más de 1,400 niñas y mujeres de toda la región tendrán acceso a torneos de fútbol de alto nivel, incluyendo el Campeonato Sub-15 y los Campeonatos Sub-17 y Sub-20.

Fechas: 28 de enero al 9 de febrero de 2020

Sede: Se anunciará el jueves, 7 de noviembre de 2019.

Equipos Participantes (en orden alfabético): Canadá, Costa Rica, Estados Unidos, Haití, Jamaica, México, Panamá y San Cristóbal y Nieves.

Formato de la Competencia: Los ocho equipos participantes serán organizados en dos grupos de cuatro equipos. Después de la fase de grupos, los equipos que terminen en primer y segundo lugar de cada grupo avanzarán a las semifinales. Los ganadores de la semifinal clasificarán automáticamente para la final del torneo, así como para el Torneo Olímpico de Fútbol Femenino Tokio 2020.

Calendario

  • Los juegos de la fase de grupos se jugarán entre el 28 de enero y el 4 de febrero de 2020;
  • Los dos primeros clasificados de cada grupo jugarán semifinales el viernes, 7 de febrero de 2020;
  • La final se jugará el domingo, 9 de febrero de 2020
