El entrenador de México en el pasado Clásico Mundial de beisbol, Edgar González, calificó a su deporte como ideal para superarse.

«En el beisbol si fallas siete de 10 eres una estrella y en ningún otro deporte puedes equivocarte tanto y tener margen para levantarte», dijo González, quien manejó esa idea en su libro «Desde el diamante».

El volumen cuenta 27 historias relacionadas con el beisbol, la mayoría a partir de experiencias de González como jugador de Grandes Ligas con los Padres de San Diego en 2008 y 2009 y pelotero de la Liga de Japón.

«Me demoré seis meses para escribirlo, recordaba una anécdota y la escribía, a veces hablé con amigos que me comentaron sus puntos de vista sobre el juego y así hasta llegar a 27 historias», cuenta.

En su libro Edgar habla de su hermano Adrián González, con 309 cuadrangulares en Ligas Mayores, y destaca la disciplina del jugador, cuyo ejemplo utiliza para aconsejar a los jóvenes trabajar duro y no darse por vencidos.

«De Adrián hay mucho en el texto, tiene talento pero desde niño fue muy cumplidor; hace poco lo llamé el 1 de enero para felicitarlo por el año nuevo, eran las siete de la mañana y ya estaba en el gimnasio del Dodger Stadium; así es él. Si le dices que baje 20 libras, las baja en 20 días», comenta.
